Maven Fly Rod Handle Options

Choose your foregrip shape and butt style, and see how the right combo changes the way a rod feels and performs. Here's a plain-English guide to every option we offer and when to choose it.

Foregrips

Half Wells grip

Half Wells

One of the most versatile grips on offer. A gentle swell at the base gives your hand a natural anchor without forcing anything. Light, intuitive, and ideal where a delicate touch is the whole point.

Best for: trout, panfish, 2–6wt, technical presentations
Full Wells grip

Full Wells

Swells at both ends give your thumb a resting ledge and your whole hand more to hold onto when you're loading a heavier rod or punching into the wind.

Best for: heavier freshwater, light saltwater, 6wt and up
Extended Wells grip

Extended Wells

Everything the full wells does, with more length up top so you can slide your hand during the fight — a small thing that makes a real difference when you're locked into something big.

Best for: offshore, steelhead, salmon, big game

Butt Ends

Butt Cap

Butt Cap

A clean, minimal end cap. Nothing extra, nothing wasted. Keeps the rod light and the look traditional.

Best for: light trout and panfish rods, minimalist builds
Micro Butt

Micro Butt

A short extension that braces against your forearm when you need it, disappears when you don't. Subtle insurance for mid-sized rods.

Best for: 5–7wt rods, mixed freshwater, occasional bigger fish
Standard Butt

Standard Butt

A proper fighting extension. Braces against your forearm or body to take the load off your wrist when you're regularly into fish that pull.

Best for: heavy freshwater, streamer rods, light inshore
Salt Butt

Salt Butt

Built for prolonged fights against big saltwater species. Longer, more grip, more leverage. When the fish is testing you, this is what you want.

Best for: bonefish, tarpon, permit, stripers, redfish
Alloy Gimbal

Alloy Gimbal

A machined gimbal butt designed for the serious end of the weight spectrum. Seats into a fighting belt or rod holder to take the load off your body during extended battles with the biggest fish in the ocean.

Best for: 15wt and up, big game, offshore, billfish
